Merlo says that their investment in their new modular range of telehandlers is the most important and the biggest change ever made to their product offering. This project cost more than 250 million euros, more than the usual 8.8 percent annually spent on R & D, and will increase total production by 27 percent to meet global demand.
Genie protective solutions continue to evolve. Highlighting a new generation in innovative solutions, a prototype of the Genie Lift Guard Contact Alarm system for Genie GS slab scissor lifts and Genie GR, GRC and QS vertical masts will be shown to customers in North America during the OSHA National Safety-Stand Down, May 7–11. This system is an electronic secondary guarding solution designed to activate when an obstruction makes contact with an activation whisker mounted to the lift's platform guardrails, alerting operators, occupants and ground personnel to a potential hazard. The prototype will also be shown to Genie customers during Vertikal Days in Leicestershire, United Kingdom, May 16–17, and at HIRE18 in Brisbane, Australia, May 30–31.
Mariano Moritsch, Managing Director and founder of Recom Moritsch, made his return to Toronto last week to meet with forming contractors and other industry leaders in the Greater Toronto Area. Moritsch first visited Toronto back in 1989 on his first business trip representing the tower crane company his late father, Ferruccio, founded back in 1962.

The Special Projects Group (SPG), a division of Canadian-owned AGF Access Group, Inc., has been selected by Andritz Hydro as a key subcontractor for construction of the Muskrat Falls generation facility in Newfoundland and Labrador. Once constructed, it will be the second largest hydroelectric generating facility in Atlantic Canada. The Muskrat Falls project will produce 824-megawatts of long term clean, renewable energy.
Model LCL700 is the largest luffing-jib tower crane from manufacturer Linden Comansa. It was launched in April 2017 with two versions of maximum load (50 and 64 tonnes / 110,230 and 141,090 lb) and designed to be used mainly in jobsites with reduced space, like in very large and congested cities. Throughout the last 12 months a few units have been sold in Asia, and the very first unit in America (both North and South) has just been erected in downtown Seattle, Washington.
The Grand Rapid Express is a group of six fully automated metro lines in Greater Paris to be completed by 2030. The project is planned to include 72 stations along its 205 km of tracks. Construction work commenced two years ago. The already existing fully automated lines will be upgraded and extended, and four completely new lines will be added. Many Sennebogen cranes and handling machines are already being used at the construction sites.
Manitowoc Cranes has announced a new smartphone app that will help customers to diagnose technical issues on their cranes much faster. The free app will be available on iOS and Android devices, and will enable users to understand the numeric diagnostic codes that are generated by their on-board control systems. Manitowoc is the first manufacturer in the crane industry to release an app of this kind.

Manitowoc has announced that it will launch a follow-up to the hugely popular Grove GMK6300L all-terrain crane, which launched in 2010 and became an immediate worldwide hit. The new 300 t (350 USt) capacity model is the GMK6300L-1, and it will continue its predecessor's legacy, bringing new levels of performance leadership to the six-axle category.
